Mario Cake!

I vowed that I would never make another birthday cake. "T" make me change my mind. He really, really wanted a cake with his plastic Mario figurines on top. I thought I would just order a cake and put them on top but nothing seemed to come together. So I landed up baking the cake and decorating it. In the final end, it wasn't so bad and I was thrilled with how it turned out. I bought "T" a few new figurines so he had a few surprises on his cake.

He blew out one candle at a time. His cousins teased him about all the girlfriends he had. Funny how he had no clue what they were talking about.

The Party

"T"'s interests have not changed much over the past year. He still eats and breathes anything Mario! So we went with a Super Mario theme again this year. "T" helped with all the details and did a great job coming up with ideas.

A huge thanks to "D" down the street who let me borrow her star-shaped cookie cutter for our star power cheese.

We made a whole batch of chocolate mustaches and used a variety of different hats for a photo booth.

Today my baby is six years old. It saddens me that he is growing up so fast. He is my cuddler, scrambled egg eater, giggler, collector, super mario gamer, blanket lover, basketball player, loveable boy!

Baby "N"

January has definitely been the month of babies! Little baby "N" continued my string of newborn sessions this week. She arrived with a head full of dark hair, the cutest little nose and a very proud big brother! I loved watching "T" with his little sister. I could tell that he was watching out for her and had her back.....just wait until she gets older!

This was not at all a "planned" picture. "T" came along and decided he wanted a snuggle and thankfully my camera was ready!

Baby "J"

It was a pleasure to meet brand new, Baby "J", and his proud parents this week. He certainly knew how to work the camera and provided many different expressions....and sounds. If only I could add a sound clip to go with the photos. I could then also include the sounds of his parents ooohing and aaawing over their beautiful baby boy. "C & M" were obviously such happy, proud parents and it was so nice to see how thrilled they were with their amazing new gift! It's easy to understand why they are head over heels for him....just take look!

Baby "J"

It was great to see "O" again. I met her for the first time this fall and we immeditately became friends. In fact, I mentioned that if she ever wants a job as a photographer's assistant, she is hired! Well, "O" became a big sister 6 weeks ago and so more photos were in order. Her new sister, Baby "J", was so responsive and even flashed a few smiles during the session. She obviously loved listening to her Mommy and Daddy's voices and smiled whenever she hear them talk. I have to admit that I was really curious if she got the same head of red hair as her older sister. Well, she didn't get red hair but she certainly got HAIR. I loved her head full of dark hair....so cute!

When I left "O" handed me a present....a panda bear that she lovingly crafted with magazine clippings and glue. I think this hat was her inspiration. I promised her I would take a picture of it. I'll share that soon!

Look Who Arrived at our Door!

Happy Holidays! After several weeks at the computer, creating cards, placing orders and editing, I'm looking forward to a break with my family. Our first official day of holidays started off with a knock at the door. "T" opened the door to find Santa! He came with a sack full of presents, some kind words and a few "ho ho's". Santa did give himself away when he had the boys sit on his lap for a photo and he called "T",
Po-tait-to! The tooth fairy is also set to arrive this evening so it's been a great start to the Christmas holidays!

"New Bee" Arrives

I met "New Bee" this week and for those of you who follow my blog....it was a boy! The perfect little brother for "D". Daddy Bee has been busy lately, looking after his family.....including making sure everyone had something to wear for their photo session. The proud Dad admitted to me that he went shopping for something for new baby "G" to wear for his photos. I must commend him because he did a great job! Baby "G" seemed to enjoy his first photo session, so much that he didn't want to miss a minute by drifting off to sleep! Congratulations on your new arrival....he really is perfect!

Not Bad for November!

So, I'm wondering if this will be my last outdoor session of the season without snow! I'd like to hope not, but that may not be realistic. Considering this was the beginning of November we had an amazing afternoon. It was great to see "E" and "K" again. As usual "K" was wearing his favorite color...purple, and I do also have to make special mention of his fabulous shoes! Apparently, "K" has a bit of a weakness for shoes, which means him and I get along great! "E" is just "E"....beautiful, lovely, soft spoken and always a pleasure! Thanks again. It was great spending time with you!

Baby "M"

The "Bee" Family

I've been photographing "D" ever since he was a tiny newborn. I understand his nickname is "Baby Bee". Apparently his Mom is "Mommy Bee". He is about to get a new baby brother or sister and right now he/she is known as "New Bee"! I can't wait to find out what the baby will bee!

The "F" Family

The "F" Family braved the coldest fall day so far this year. Even though temperatures were low, there was no wind at all which made for a great picture-taking evening! We met along Waterfront Drive and explored the surrounding area. Throughout the evening I was reminded again what a small world it is. We seemed to know so many of the same people or found we had many connections. In fact, even as the family was posed for a shot, a friend walked by and called out to them....someone who I actually knew as well. I enjoyed the beautiful fall evening together with you!

Brrrrr....Winter is Coming!

It definitely felt like winter is on it's way on Saturday morning. "B" and "L" showed up for their session in the perfect fall coats so they were prepared for a chilly morning! It was great to see this family again. I always enjoy them and especially the kids! I think it's because they always laugh at my jokes, well most of them. "B" was the first 4 year old that I've met who has his own iphone. I should clarify, it looked like a real one thanks to the creativity of his dad. I asked him who he was talking to....his girlfriend?!? And he answered..."no, my babysitter!" She must be a pretty great babysitter. "L" was cute as usual. By the end of our session he was so cold that he just cuddled right up in his Mom's arms. I love those moments! Thanks for a great morning...even though it was a little cold.

I Gained a Niece!

My nephew "R" got married this past weekend so, "J" became my niece. I was honored to be their wedding photographer and treasured the opportunity to spend the day with them. And what a day it was!!!! As many of you may recall, this past Friday was probably the windiest day Manitoba has had in a long time. "R & J" remained so calm and such great sports as they almost blew away! Thankfully we had an indoor spot as a backup plan and a place for us to get out of the wind. The little one room schoolhouse really was the perfect place as they are both studying to be teachers! In the final end, the day was perfect! They were both stunning, the ceremony was beautiful and the reception was lovely. Wishing you all the happiness in the world! Thanks for an amazing day!

The "S" Family

I spent a beautiful fall evening out in the country with the "S" family. I figure we did really well fending for ourselves out in the country. We dealt with dusty gravel roads, muddy ditches, dirt roads with big ruts and stray dogs. The sun seemed to set quickly this evening but still gave us a beautiful hazy, fall sky. The Perfect Fall Day!

This family definitely picked the perfect fall day for their session. Although the leaves were just starting to change color, there already seemed to be a beautiful carpet of colored leaves on the ground. The men in this family are definitely a little outnumbered but perhaps that will change when "O's" new baby brother (or sister ) arrives?!? I guess we'll have to wait and see. For now we'll just call him or her "pumpkin"! Thanks for a great afternoon!

The "D" Family

It was great to see the "D" Family again! The last time I saw them was when "B" was a little newborn. She sure has changed since then and her big sister has grown up lots since then too! I was struck once again by the amazing brown eyes that both of these girls were blessed with. They definitely had a sparkle I won't soon forget!

"T" Starts Kindergarten!

"T" was thrilled to be starting his very first today of Kindergarten today. It's finally his turn! He was beaming from ear to ear all morning. I won't get into being sad that my baby is starting Kindergarten and how much I'll miss him because that just wouldn't be fair to him. He is so ready and happy to go that I don't want to take away from his joy by feeling sorry for myself. Deep down though....I'm sad. As you can see....he is not.

Back to School

Today was "E's" first day of grade three. It was so great to see how excited he was for school to start....other than the fact that it took him several hours before he fell asleep last night! Inside though, I'm a little sad. This morning when I walked him to school, I was left in his dust as he saw his friends and headed to his new classroom. And then (this is the worst part) when it was time for me to leave he didn't want a kiss! This was a first and it struck me how grown up he is now. I would love to know how to slow the growing down but until I figure that out, I'll celebrate the great guy that he is.

My best memories were from our campground where we spent lots of time by the pool, sitting by campfires, hanging out at the playground and relaxing!

Testing out a new lens...

I recently purchased a new lens and needed to put it to the test. We spent a beautiful summer day having lunch at Barney Gargle's, visiting the candy train at the Forks and watching some skateboarding. "T" seemed to be in an unusually cooperative mood (at least when it came to taking photos) so I made the most of it with him. The new lens is definitely a keeper. Now I have my eye on the f/1.8 85mm.

The Brown-Eyed Geese Chaser

It was great to see "I" again. This time it was for his one year old photos. I was once again struck by his amazing dark brown eyes! We spent a great morning at the park, chasing soccer balls, dinosaurs, fish, cats and GEESE! I was amazed at how fearless "I" seemed to be when it came to the geese. He obviously has more of an appreciation for them than I do!

Apparently his soccer ball is his most prized poccession.....maybe this is the next Beckham!

For the past few years, I've donated a prize package to a silent auction in support of Operation Christmas Child. The silent auction is a part of the annual Rosenort Festival. This photo session was for last year's winner. I spent a lovely morning out in Rosenort, exploring the river trail (which I had never been down before) and meeting some new friends. Thanks for a lovely morning. It really was perfect!

The "S" Family

I met the "S" Family on a warm Saturday morning. We enjoyed the lovely, natural setting of the St. Vital park.....right boys! Over the course of our session, it because evident that these gentlemen were getting their fill of the great outdoors quite quickly! I think they're good now for the next 10 years! I just happened to have two nieces graduating from grade twelve this year. Today I spent time with my other lovely niece, "S"! She was under a bit of a time constrant so we landed up at a park near her house. It was perfect! Just the right mix of fun, bright colors, nice lush greenery, flowers, a fun playground and to top it all off....a school bus! It seemed suiting! Thanks for a lovely afternoon, "S"! I was thrilled to spend some time with my lovely niece "J" on her graduation day! She was stunning and so, so happy! Our photo session landed up taking place at a wide variety of locations....the backyard, a tatoo parlor, in an office building, and on the street. Her friend "C" was also graduating so he joined us for some shots as well. Congratulations you two!

Brand new Baby "N" arrived with the most amazing head full of dark black hair! I could instantly tell that this whole family was over the moon to welcome a girl into the family. What touched me the most was how her 2 older brothers were so taken with her. They literally just lay beside her and gazed admiringly at her! So sweet! Baby "O" stopped by for her newborn photos this weekend. She was a dream baby and slept and slept. I was beginning to think that nothing would wake her up as I did wardrobe and prop changes. I think that this post may set the record for my longest to date! There's a good reason to post lots of photos from this engagement session though! The future groom is actually my nephew, "R", and we couldn't be more thrilled that he is getting married....especially because he is marrying "J". We spent a very cool, windy June morning together. We started off with a few "country" photos as "J" is from the country and ended off with "city" photos because "R" has lived in the city all his life. Enjoy!

We ended off at the place where "J" works. It was so much fun to shoot in a new location and the light was amazing!

Spring Wedding

I spent a lovely day with A & J and their wedding party! The weather could not have been more perfect and it was fun to shoot in a completely new location. The nearby railroad tracks were the perfect place to start....

...and as luck would have it, a train came by just as we were getting off the tracks!

Baby "A" arrived on the scene just over a week ago! A beautiful baby sister for "B"....one of my favorite little friends to photograph! Her family came by for a few newborn photos this week. I was really struck with how similar the 2 little princesses looked. So sweet!

It was great to see this family again and they certainly brightened an otherwise dreary Saturday! Baby number three is on the way and I can't wait to find out if they'll make it a hatrick with another boy or if it will be a girl. Everytime I'm with this family I'm always struck by their most incredible brown eyes.....great genes to pass on!

"They're Having A Wedding!"

I did my first outdoor spring session this past weekend and had a fabulous time! I met "E & T" at BDI and we explored the area around it. We even made a new friend at the playground. I'm sure he was the boy from the movie, A Christmas Story! He just needed his Red Rider BB Gun or a pink bunny suit! He made sure he helped us out during our photo session and announced to anyone who walked by, "They're having a wedding"! And yes, they are having a wedding, and these are their engagement photos to celebrate the fact that "E" said "YES"! I had such a hard time selecting my favorites so, I'm posting LOTS of photos. Baby "J" was a dream! At 3 months old, he cooed, smiled and was a complete charmer. At the end of our session, when it was time for a nap he fell asleep perfectly as well. His proud Grandmas joined us for a few pictures as well. Baby "J" was certainly the main attraction and handled the spotlight perfectly!

Float Mount Wraps

I had one of my favorite images printed on canvas and then wrapped around a wooden frame. In this case the finished product is 16x20 with the edge width 1 1/2 inches. It comes completely ready to hang. The hardest part is really deciding where to put it! Canvas gallery wraps are a great way to display some of your favorite images. These mini accordian albums are definitely a favorite! They are such a perfect way to enjoy a collection of photos from your session. Grandparents will love it, it is perfect for your desk at work and it is even magnetic so you can display it on your fridge. Typically, about 10 photos are used and the album is custom designed to suit your style. Covers can be curstom designed as well or cloth and leather is also an option.

I know, I know, I've been MIA for the last while. Truthfully, I've been enjoying a little break and taking time to focus more on my family. But, the spring season is fast approaching and I'm gearing up for some great sessions! I'm also excited about several new products I am offering now for spring. Stay tuned over the new few days as I'll be featuring 6 new products. (My neighbor also reminded me that I needed to post something again soon, so here goes!)

I'm so exicted about these beautiful press printed albums. This is definitely not a photo book but rather....an album. It comes with a customized cover and wonderfully thick pages, similar to a board book. Photos can be printed across the entire spread of the book which definitely makes a statement.

Notice the thick pages which lie flat when the book is open.

The "B" Family

Mmmmmm......what to say about this family. Throughout the whole session as the gang was getting a little rowdy and as words were being exchanged (all in good fun, of course) a particular family member kept reminding everyone to watch out what they were doing as I write about each session when I post the photos. But I'll be nice. I won't write about people getting pushed in the snow, tripped, called names and so on. We did have a lovely afternoon, even though the weather was a little on the cold side. We have been waiting for a decent day to do this session for quite a while so we were thankful the weather was as warm as it was. Good thing we snuck these photos in as the temperature seemed to drop an hour after our session was finished. Thanks for braving the elements to do the photos outside. I'm so glad you did!

The Party!

We decided to go with a Rainbow Mario theme for "T's" 5th birthday party. I didn't think I could attempt a Mario cake so I made rainbow cake pops and a rainbow cake instead. We topped things off with some of "T's" favorites.....Extreme Cheddar Fish Crackers, Fruit, Popcorn and Jellybeans!

The cake looked very plain on the outside, but the inside was the fun part!

We used some of "T's" Mario friends to decorate the table.

This was the second time I attempted cake pops and I think they were much more successful. I'll definitely make them again.

This is the birthday boy, not to be confused with Luigi from Mariocart!

He thought the costume fit with the theme so he had to wear it. Why not?!?

"T" Turns Five!

This weekend has been all about celebrating "T". Today was his magic birthday so we spent the day eating his favorite foods, having a party at Build-A-Bear with friends, watching his favorite show and just being together. Last week I took "T" to the park to document him as a five year old. The weather finally was a wee bit warmer (not much though) and he was actually an unusually good sport this time around. In the final end, there just was something about the photos that didn't seem quite right to me. So....

.....I tied a red scarf on him for color one day when he was playing outside and everything was MUCH better!

"Baby I"

Baby "I" stopped by this week for his 6 month photos. His Mom and I go way back to my high school days so it was great to catch up and meet her new little man! He definitely made a great first impression. He was content, smiled and was certainly a charmer. I love how laid back and relaxed he seemed to be. In fact, as soon as he lay on his back he put his arms right behind his head and appeared to be ready to chill. Very cute!

I had to include this picture as I can only imagine which rock song he is belting out.

Better Late Than Never!

After ironing out some blog issues, I'm finally back with lots of Christmas photos. I know you're already all thinking about Valentine's Day but I figured it was better late than never! This year our boys decided they would make gifts for each other instead of purchase something. "T" received a giraffe sculpturem which "E" created entirely on his own!

"E" received a bed for his Zhu-zhu pet. "T" did not make this entirely on his own....but he was still thrilled to give it.

The biggest hit this year were definitely the Mario and Luigi costumes I picked up just before Halloween. I think they wore them everyday throughout the holidays.
